Injury-plagued Pirates weather Pierce Tourney 1-2

FORT STEILACOOM - The Pirates, who lost two players for the season and two players who are likely out for the preseason, played their hearts out at the Red Raider Classic over the weekend, but could only manage one win.

Coach Alison Crumb did all she could with her injury-riddled team, going toe-to-toe with a strong Clackamas program for the entire first half on Friday before succumbing to a relentless Cougar press to fall 75-57. Taylor Larson poured in 24 points and pulled down 7 rebounds and Abby Jones hit for 13. The Pirates suffered 29 turnovers and were outrebounded 45-34.

In Saturday's game against a Olympic, the Pirates enjoyed a bit of a track meet against the underpowered Rangers, winning 89-28. Jones led the way with a double-double (22 points, 13 rebounds), Jasmine Yarde had a nice game with 19 points, 6 rebounds, 7 steals and 4 assists, Larson had 15 points and 7 boards in only 19 minutes on the floor, Pherrari Brumbaugh chipped in 9, Jonnica Durbin had a nice effort with 9 rebounds and Karli Brakes added 6 assists and 5 steals.

The tank was half-empty on Sunday when the PC women took on Wenatchee and they ran out of gas, falling 49-45 in a defensive struggle. Larson and Yarde led with 12 each, Jones had 8 points and 10 rebounds and Durbin also scored 8.

The Pirates (3-4) wrap up non-conference play this weekend at the South Region Crossover Touranment at Lane Community College in Eugene, OR.
