League-leading Pirates home Wednesday and Saturday this week

PORT ANGELES – Halfway through the North Region schedule, the Pirate women and men are on track to do something rarely done in the Northwest Athletic Conference – win back-to-back titles.

The Peninsula women are 6-1 in conference play and tied with Bellevue for first place. Skagit Valley is one game back at 5-2 and then it’s Evertt at 4-3, Shoreline at 3-4, Olympic and Whatcom at 2-5 and Edmonds at 0-7. The Pirates are home for their next two games, Wednesday against Shoreline, and Saturday against Everett.

The PC men, meanwhile, are ranked No. 4 in the NWAC and have separated from the pack. Peninsula is 6-1, followed by a four-way tie for second with Whatcom, Bellevue, Shoreline and Skagit Valley, all 4-3. Everett is 3-4, Edmonds 2-5 and Olympic 1-6.

Wednesday’s game will feature a halftime show by the Peninsula College Dance Club. Tip off for the women and men against Shoreline is 5 p.m. and 7 p.m.

Saturday is Throwback Night, where fans are encouraged to wear their old Pirate gear. Halftime shows will include music trivia questions. Those games start at 4 p.m. and 6 p.m.

Halfway through league play, the Pirate women rank 12th in the NWAC and second in the North Division for points scored with 68.8 average and 11th in the NWAC and third in the North for points against. The Pirates’ top scorers are Anaya Rodisha, who is averaging 13.79, Alicia Dugan 12.45 and Jenise McKnight 12.0. McKnight leads the team in rebounds with an 8.0 average, Tai Thomas is at 6.06 and Yamilei Rodriguez is third at 5.25.

For the PC men at the halfway point of league play, the Pirates rank 13th in the NWAC for points scored (77.4) and ninth in points against (77.4). They lead the North Region in both categories. Individually, Darrion Daniels leads PC with a 17.61 average, Kevin Baker is at 11.37 points per game, Alex Baham 11.05 and Jalon McCullough 10.21. Omar Lo is Peninsula’s top rebounder with 6.37, Baker is at 5.96 and Daniels, Sam Velez and Trent Warren are all averaging more than four.

In last week’s action, McKnight scored 20, Rodriguez 15, Dugan 12 and Tiffani Smith 10 as the Pirates defeated Whatcom 78-69 in the women’s game, while Baker scored 19, Daniels 15, McCullough 11 and Warren 10 leading the PC men past the Orcas 84-76.
