Pirates ready to Rumble April 25

PORT ANGELES - Be prepared to “rumble” and cheer on some of the best soccer teams in the Pacific Northwest on Saturday, April 25, when Peninsula College hosts the Rumble in the Rainforest Soccer Exhibition Extravaganza at Sigmar Field in Port Angeles. The Rumble benefits the Peninsula College Athletic Program, and helps to raise money to support athletic scholarships.

Events will kick off at 10 am on Sigmar Field with a match between the men of Olympic Force vs. Peninsula College. This will be followed at 11:20 by an exhibition match between the men of Saint Martin’s College and the Kitsap Pumas. At 12:40, the women of Saint Martin’s and Peninsula College will meet.

Men’s soccer dominates the rest of the day, continuing at 2:30 pm when the Peninsula College men’s team goes up against the Kitsap Pumas. At 3:50 pm, the Olympic Force will face off against St. Martin’s College.

In addition to world class soccer games, there will be other free events on campus. Soccer fans and car lovers are invited to visit a car show, hosted by the Peninsula College Auto Shop, Ruddell Automall, Price Ford and Wilder Auto. For children, there will be a special Kids’ Zone, featuring a bouncy house, sponsored Storm King Soccer.

Visitors and famished spectators are invited to try out some great food and drink options from Next Door Gastropub and the Pirate Cove Café, available at the field. 

Admission: 6-U free; 7 – 17$5 ($2.50 if in Academy or local club soccer jersey); 18 and older $10; Seniors & current Military $5; Family of 5 or more $30.

Admission includes in/out privileges throughout the day and access to the Kids’ Zone. Please no outside food or beverages.

The Kitsap Pumas are an American professional soccer team based in Bremerton, Washington. Founded in 2008, the team is part of the USL Premier Development League (PDL), the fourth tier of the American Soccer Pyramid in the Northwest Division of the Western Conference. The Pumas were 2011 PDL Champions. 

Saint Martin’s teams participate in the NCAA's Great Northwest Athletic Conference at the Division II level. In 2009, the men's soccer team seized the first team title in any sport for Saint Martin's University, winning the Great Northwest Athletic Conference

Olympic Force is the newest addition to the Evergreen Premiere League. A substantial portion of the players in the EPL have competed at the collegiate level and professional level with several players having played in US professional indoor soccer leagues.  

Peninsula College women’s and men’s teams have been nationally ranked for three straight years and have won five NWAC championships in the last five years. Playing their regular season in the fall, they are allowed a short exhibition season each spring.
